Smoothies Maker
Bahamas. Key West. Fiji. Tahiti. You may think sun, beaches, and tall, cool drinks. That’s just right—but we’re not talking travel. We’re talking smoothies maker—Margaritaville frozen concoction maker—to be precise.
Yeah, those makers can do the alcoholic drinks, but you want something more nutritious and healthier. So, make a smoothie. All it takes is shaved ice, fruit, and …well, there can be a lot of “ands.” Originally, in Brazil, there were no other ands. Commonly today there is some kind of milk product: ice cream, yoghurt, frozen yoghurt, ice milk, or the soy milk substitutes for all of those. There may be protein powders, green tea, or nutritional supplements. There may well be a variety of fruits—even vegetable juices—instead of a single fruit. They are all smoothies, and they are all yummy.
So how do you make them? Remember, ice is the only consistent required ingredient. You have to turn ice cubes into, well, something smooth. Then you mix it in the proper ratio with whatever else you’re going to drink. Sounds simple?
It isn’t. Getting ice from chunks to smooth takes technology. You could use a hand-cranked juicer—but your ice will turn to water and your fingers into bloody stumps before you get the ice smooth.
So, what’s wrong with a simple blender? A couple of things. First, blenders were not designed to deal with solids—even temporary solids like ice. You have to add some liquid, and then the ice keeps escaping the blades to hide in chunks in the liquid. So, you blend it even more—creating more heat with every revolution of the blades—and then you get water instead of ice. It just isn’t the tool for the job.
What is the right tool? One of the four Margaritaville machines will suit your needs. The choice of model—the Bahamas DM 0500, the Key West DM 1000; the Fiji DM2000, or the top-of-the-line Tahiti DM 3000—depends on what frozen concoctions you want and how much of them.
Let’s start with the best model for automatic production of the perfect smoothie. This is the Margaritaville Fiji frozen concoction maker DM2000, smoothies fall among the “frozen concoctions.” First, all the ingredients are blended to the “smoothie” setting. Then, the ice from the hopper is shaved in the ideal proportions into your now almost finished pitcher. Finally, it blends the shaved ice into the rest, giving a restaurant-quality …well, smoothness. There are no ice lumps, no watery pockets.
The operation is so simple your eight-year-old can make her own smoothie and clean up afterward. Put the ice in the top, choose “smoothie” on the settings, put in the fruit/yoghurt/ice cream/etc., and push the “go” button. It will blend, shave ice, blend, and stop on its own. Everyone’s morning smoothie will be ready in a matter of minutes!

If the consistency provided by the Margaritaville frozen concoction maker, the DM2000, does not meet your personal definition of perfection, you can blend more or less; you can add more or less ice. Additionally, you can make 1 or 2 servings, not just a full pitcher. It is up to you.
If you have a big family, all with different tastes, or you are serving the residents of a small hostel, or entertain a great deal during hot weather, you may well want the even more versatile Margaritaville DM3000–the Tahiti. This top-of-the-line model has all the features of the Fiji DM2000, but can make three pitchers of different consistency concoctions at one time. It adds two more automatic consistencies to its choices, in case you want to define your smoothie as, say, a “mud slide” or “mojito,” rather than the per-determined “smoothie.” As with all four models, there are manual blend and ice controls allowing even more variation.

Backing down the model pyramid, the Margaritaville machine DM1000 does not provide an automatic smoothie setting, but does not have the ability to make less than a full pitcher automatically. You can use the single setting to make a smoothie automatically if you are using only liquid ingredients. If you are including, say, ice cream, you will probably need to use the manual controls to get the consistency you like.

Need a less sophisticated machine? Are you more into self-control, rather than automatic productions? Then the Margaritaville margarita machine DM0500 will suit your needs. As the name implies, this model specialized in the automatic margarita. It will still shave ice, and blend to the perfectly consistent restaurant-quality margarita consistency. This might well suit your smoothie requirements. If not, the manual options allow infinite variations on the blending times and the shaved ice quantities. You can build your perfect smoothie in just a couple minutes. Though designed for a full pitcher, on manual, you can just put in fewer ingredients and control the ice to make the small quantity you desire.

The taste, variety, and nutritional composition are entirely up to you—the hard work is done by the Margaritaville makers. You can relax in the Bahamas, Key West, Fiji, Tahiti, or just your own home, and enjoy the s-m-o-o-t-h life.
If convenient, when I recommend a product or service, I include an affiliate link to it. That means, if someone clicks on the link and makes a purchase, the vendor pays me something out of their advertising budget. I’d be a fool not to. If the product isn’t excellent, I won’t include a link; I probably won’t mention it at all.
